Out of the Box, Madhavnagar Road, Sangli

This home is a dream project not only for the client, but even for us as designers. The bungalow is being built on a 3100 sq ft trapezoidal corner plot. This odd shape meant we only had an unobstructed view towards the South.
The idea we built on here was a modern representation of traditional elements. This architectural narrative is reflected in fenestrations, materials, design details and it weaves the entire structure together. The harsh south light is treated with brick jali walls and openable grill patterns. The deep box windows also act as sun shading elements.
The wooden railing detail is reminiscent of the vernacular architectural language and adds to the aesthetic appeal. The massing is resultant of internal spatial planning where spaces have been staggered. The geometric pattern evolved is then accentuated by adding fenestrations and play of materials. The landscape screens act as a crucial design element and are not just an aesthetic feature. The merging of the compound wall with the entrance verandah adds character to the space.
